Rare doesn't begin to describe this 100% original early Schecter from the original shop in Van Nuys. It has the correct 'S' serial number and the number on mine is less than 25 numbers away from Pete Townshend's black Schecter in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. Featherweight and with all the right appointments including three Monstertone pickups with 3 way paddles and coil taps on both vol and tone pots. Tele shaped body with a tremolo bridge (no, I do not have the arm). Because of the lightweight and grain showing through, I believe it's a basswood body finished in gold with lacquer over. There is a ding on the back, lower edge and some stress finish cracks near the neck screws. Neck is full and fine with zero wear. ![]() One piece maple neck with skunk stripe features flatter than vintage radius and medium jumbo frets. Guitar is just stunning. Note: I have owned this guitar for about 15 years and I've never turned a screw on it and I'm not going to be the one to break the neck seal to see the butt of the neck and the pocket. If we are talking about the same guitar, the 21 frets generally makes it earlier, so 1983 seems reasonable. Later ones has 22 frets, sometimes TM near the schecter(TM) logo on the headstock, and sometimes Schecter labelled Schaller pickups. The earlier california-made PTs, had inline controls [like a fender tele], rather than offset. I don't know that the switch from inline --> offset came right at the california --> Manga pandora hearts. dallas move, but it was around that time. The ones with inline controls are the ones that demand big $$$$.
